Asela
Waidyalankara

Asela Waidyalankara is a cyber security expert based in Sri Lanka with more than a decade of experience in progressive technology, digital strategy, and policy.

Asela has been recognized for his expertise and contributions to the field of cyber security. He has received several awards for his outstanding performance and achievements. He has also published articles on various topics related to cyber security, data privacy, digital transformation, and IT policy.
His recent articles include publications in EU Cyber Direct, which is an EU Cyber Diplomacy Initiative that supports the European Union's cyber diplomacy and international digital engagements. The initiative is affiliated with the European Union Institute of Security Studies. The author's article is the first time a Sri Lankan has been featured in this global publication.

Asela Waidyalankara is a passionate speaker and coach on cyber security. Asela has a unique approach to delivering cyber security awareness that is both understandable and memorable. He is able to relate the topic of cyber security awareness to both senior managerial audiences as well as grade school children in Sri Lanka and in particular to those without any IT backgrounds.

He has delivered keynote speeches and workshops at various global events and forums, where he shared his knowledge and experience with audiences from different backgrounds and sectors. He was the first Sri Lankan to participate in the global panel discussion on Cybersecurity organized by the Global Network of Director Institutes (GNDI). Other participants included the Cybersecurity head of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the former Cybersecurity Director for US President Obama.

He has also appeared on several media platforms including print, radio, online and television, to share insights on current issues and trends in cyber security and has mentored and trained many aspiring cyber security professionals through his courses and programs. Asela serves as the Course Director for The Bandaranaike Academy for Leadership and Public Policy institute’s Cyber Security Policy Course.  

Asela is very committed to raising awareness and educating people about the importance of data privacy and cyber security in today's digital world. His core mission, aligning with Cybersafe, is bringing cyber security to the masses.

Thushanee
Illangakoon

Thushanee is a highly accomplished professional with over two decades of experience in certification governance and compliance within the telecommunications industry. She possesses a proven track record of establishing sustainable governance frameworks for ISO management systems, successfully guiding organizations in acquiring and maintaining business-critical certifications. Her expertise extends to procurement guidelines for certification-specific vendors, ensuring adherence to established standards and certification requirements. Recognized for her commitment to process simplification and operational efficiency, Thushanee consistently strives to streamline processes and enhance organizational effectiveness.

As a certified lead auditor for ISO standards, Thushanee actively champions and spearheads the certification of corporates to ISO Management Systems (9001, 27001) and product-specific certifications (PCI DSS, GSMA Mobile money certification). Her pioneering efforts have resulted in groundbreaking achievements of both local and international compliance milestones, positioning a Sri Lankan telco among global operators. Additionally, she has played a pivotal role in retaining one of the oldest ISO certificates (20+ years) held by a Sri Lankan Public Listed Company, a testament to her unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest standards of compliance.

Geethal
Fernando

Geethal heads partnerships and growth at Cybersafe. He is an enterprise solutions specialist with a focus on ERP/CRM and IoT, and an avid AI enthusiast and digital marketer. A technology professional with multi-country experience, he has worked with teams in Germany, the USA, Australia, India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East, and Sri Lanka.

Given his background, Geethal has a diverse perspective on how cybersecurity and digital awareness can impact businesses and individuals alike. The ERP world, for instance, presents a significant amount of risks to entities such as manufacturers, with numerous breach points and yet structures that can help reduce risks. With the advent of IoT, these risks have become magnified for both businesses and individuals alike. In addition to manufacturers, Geethal is interested in policy areas such as hospitality cybersecurity, where customer information is constantly at risk, and economically disadvantaged groups, youth, and senior citizens.
